Trip report: Thailand, Mystical Asia (July 2007) by Tropical Birding

Guided by Benji Schwartz.

From its friendly locals to its stunning temples and huge diversity of birdlife, Thailand is one of Asia’s most exciting birding destinations. Located at a crossroads of Southeast Asia, Thailand receives both the tropical Malayan species in the south as well as the Palearctic migrants in the north. During our three-week trip we were able to cover this vast region from mountain peaks to limestone outcroppings and lush tropical forests. Add to this the famous Thai cuisine (convincing even skeptics that rice can be good) and it is no wonder that Thailand is one of the top birding destination in Asia. With a nice list of 410 species seen, this introduction to Asian birding was a fantastic experience for everyone.
