Trip report: Thailand, custom tour (Feb-Mar 2010) by Tropical Birding

Guided by Charley Hesse.

With its well-developed tourist infrastructure, friendly people, delicious food, wide range of habitats and superb diversity of both resident, migrant and wintering birds; Thailand is an obvious first choice as an introduction to Asian birding. On this short custom tour we concentrated on birding just a few areas. The majestic Khao Yai National Park where gibbons & giant squirrels compete with the hornbills & pheasants for top-billing; world class shorebirding close to Bangkok with the mega-rare Spoon-billed Sandpiper; and the mountains of the north-west with numerous wintering thrushes & warblers, colorful minivets & sunbirds, and countless skulking specialties that make you work for your list. Thailand has everything you could ask for in a birding destination.
