Trip report: Costa Rica Introtour (Feb 2012) by Tropical Birding

Guided by Michael Retter.

Tiny Costa Rica has a lot to offer. Within just a couple hours of its capital, San José, you can see many hundreds of bird species. Our Introtour is designed to offer a variety of habitats (and birds) at a relatively relaxed pace.

We experienced almost no rain this year, which allowed us to maximize our time deep in the field and turn up such hard-to-find gems as Three-wattled Bellbird and Baird’s Trogon. Perennial favorites like Resplendent Quetzal and Scarlet Macaw provided “walk-away” views.
