Trip report: Madagascar Custom Tour (Nov 2016) by Tropical Birding

Guided by Ken Behrens. This was a custom tour that was very similar to our normal set-departure tour.

This was yet another highly successful custom trip in Madagascar, with Tropical Birding’s satellite office in the country making sure that things ran smoothly. We recorded the majority of the island’s endemic birds, a couple dozen mammals (mostly lemurs), and 37 reptiles (including 10 chameleons), and a bunch of frogs. Starting in the totally unique spiny forest of the southwest, we crossed the High Plateau, then explored the mountain and middle-elevation rainforests of the east, plus the mangroves, littoral scrub, offshore islands, rocky escarpments, tidal shores, and every other micro habitat in between. We also thoroughly savored Madagascar’s wonderful hotels, fine French / Malagasy cuisine, and many cultural wonders.
