Trip report: South Africa Fairest Cape to Kruger (Sept 2017) by Tropical Birding

Guided by Lisle Gwynn and Crammy Wanyama. This was a set departure tour.

Report by Crammy Wayana.

It was a pleasure co-guiding this hot selling trip to South Africa, a country with multiple habitats. We had an amazing trip as we went from coastlines to Fynbos, Karoo scrub, grassland, and Acacia and Mopane Woodland, enjoying abundant wildlife along the way. While traveling through this huge country, we also learned some of its history and saw its different cultures. We did well with birds, scoring 482 bird species, and also found 62 mammals and 10 reptile species. We were pleased by the weather, with only a few showers experienced, which didn’t cost us much birding, and had some windy conditions in the Cape, which is typical. Much of the country was pretty dry following a long drought, but some areas like Southern Kwa-Zulu Natal, appeared not to have been as affected.
