Trip report: Costa Rica Photo Tour (June 2018) by Tropical Birding

Guided by Pablo Cervantes Daza. This was a set-departure tour.

This was the first time that Tropical Birding had run a photo tour in Costa Rica within the month of June. The experience that we had was superb, particularly as the timing of the tour meant that we could often photograph birds with their young in some of the places. Weather-wise, it was mixed, as expected in this season, with some rainy periods on some days, and mostly sunny on others. Some of the rain was heavy, and we occasionally needed to wait it out, but in my opinion, the rain around Laguna del Lagarto enhanced our photography. The rain was not too heavy to affect our shooting, and the species and numbers of birds present were the best I have seen there. Another major plus of visiting in June was that it was the low season, so there were far less other tourists around, and we even had some of the lodges to ourselves.
