Trip report: California Custom Tour (October 2020) by Tropical Birding

Guided by Dorian Anderson. This was a custom tour

The Shackleton Expedition, the first summit of Mount Everest, and the Apollo 11 Moon landing; incredible as were those adventures, none will live in comparable infamy to our four-day Southern California whirlwind, a custom tour designed to explore some of the most productive birding areas in Orange, Riverside, Imperial, and San Diego Counties. We explored tidal estuaries, freshwater marshes, oak woodlands, public parks, agricultural swaths, the Sonoran Desert, ponderosa forest, coastal chaparral, and the Salton Sea, and we found 155 species across those varied habitats. Most importantly, we had some excellent photographic opportunities while familiarizing the clients with the Southern California landscape, an area they will visit many additional times for familial reasons.
