This epic tour of Africa’s mini Galapagos – São Tomé and Principe, was a repeat of our long standing level of success in this archipelago. The team managed a complete haul (by most standard taxonomies) of ALL the endemic species from the islands, missing none, and adding a few handsome pelagics for good measure. Special care was made to observe and examine in detail a select number of forms and sub-species which in future may become good splits! We enjoyed gloatingly good views of Critically Threatened endemics such as Sao Tome’s Grosbeak, Newton’s Fiscal and Dwarf Olive Ibis. Other fascinating oddities included the tree-marching Bocage’s Longbill and Dohrn’s Thrush-babbler as well as the magnificent Giant Sunbird and Giant Weaver.
