MINAS GERAIS, ALAGOAS & PANTANAL - BEYOND THE ATLANTIC FORESTS.
While there can be little doubt that the phenomenal Atlantic forests
are the place to start, there are some amazing other habitats nearby.
Cipó National Park's wooded Cerrado harbours the amazing Hyacinth Visorbearer
and localised Cipó Canastero. The streams cutting through the Campo
of Canastra National Park not only hold the magnificent and endangered
Brazilian Merganser but the adjacent grasslands are home to Maned Wolf,
Anteaters and a host of grassland birds.
The rolling grasslands of Canastra NP sway in the
haze
The Atlantic slope of Alagoas and Pernambuco are home to some of the
most threatened species in the world including Plain Spinetail, Alagoas
Foliage-gleaner, Alagoas Antwren, Alagoas Tyrannulet, Seven-coloured
Tanager and Forbes' Blackbird.
The Pantanal needs little introduction as one of the world's most
amazing wetlands crammed with herons, ibis, storks, ducks and many waterbird
species. The threatened dry and moist forests of Minas Gerais and Alagoas
are also packed with more highly endangered and threatened bird species.
The Cerrado at Cipo NP holds Hyacinth Visorbearer
and the incredibly localised Cipo Canastero
From June 2005 Tropical
