For sheer diversity of birds in a short trip, it’s hard to beat Ecuador. Nowhere else is it as easy to experience such a range of habitats and families in a safe country with good infrastructure. If you have enjoyed trips to places like Panama, Costa Rica, and Trinidad, then Ecuador will just blow you away; it does not get better than this.
Many of the Tropical Birding guides are based in Ecuador, and between our set-departure tours and custom trips, we have at least one tour running on nearly every day of the year. Be it cloudforest, rainforest, 15,000 ft Andean paramo, or even the Galapagos, you can get it all here.

Which tour should I pick?
With so many options, it can be hard to know which tour to choose. If you are only every going to come to Ecuador once, the three-week combination of our Andes Introtour and Eastern Ecuador: High Andes to Vast Amazon tour is hard to beat in terms of sheer numbers and great lodges.
If you can only get away for a short time, the Andes Introtour is the trip for you. We routinely see over 300 species on the trip, and a short extension adds even more.
Our Northwest Ecuador trip is a longer and more intense version of the Andes Introtour. It adds several more remote areas and targets numerous difficult regional endemics.
Many people choose Southern Ecuador for a second trip to Ecuador, but there is absolutely no reason why it could not also be a first trip. Many of our guides say it is their favorite tour due to the sheer variety of habitats visited, a series of superb lodges each with their own unique feel, and a very impressive list of birds.
A cruise in the Galapagos Islands is totally different from any other Ecuador tour. Don’t come here for a huge list, but do come for up-close and personal encounters with charismatic birds, mammals, reptiles, and fish as well as dramatic volcanic scenery. If you aren’t a photographer, this trip might just make you one.
Speaking of photographers, casual bird photographers will enjoy any of these trips – the many feeders we visit makes for some easy photography. However, serious photographers who are more interested in getting perfect shots than in getting a big list will want to consider our Ecuador Photo Journey.
What about a custom tour?
Since our main office is located in Ecuador, we can very quickly and easily set up a custom tour to virtually anywhere you can imagine. With a custom tour, you can travel with friends and family on dates that are convenient for your schedule, and the tour will be run at the pace and difficulty you desire. Custom trips can be modeled after one of our set-departure tours, or they can be totally different; just let us know where you want to go, what you want to see, your preferred dates, and your group size, and we will give you a detailed quote for the trip.
